PRIVACY

THE SHORT VERSION
We’d like to know which issues people enjoy and how they read them, so we can make better ones. That’s all we use any of this for. We never see what you type, and we never sell or share your information.
WHAT WE COUNT
Like most sites, we count visits: which pages and issues get opened, how far people read, which country they’re in, what kind of device they use and which site sent them. There are no cookies, no names, and we don’t keep IP addresses. A random ID in your browser holds a visit together and disappears when you close the tab. (Say yes to the banner and there’s one more, explained below.) We keep these numbers for up to 400 days. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits the same cookie-free way.
SEEING HOW THE SITE GETS USED
To find what works and what doesn’t (a button that’s hard to tap, a page people skip), we can replay how a visit went: scrolling, taps and page turns, the way the page looked on screen. Sometimes we look at this as it happens, sometimes later.
- Your browser starts noting this when you arrive but keeps it to itself. It only reaches us once the banner has been up for 20 seconds without a No thanks. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland we ask you straight out instead, and it only reaches us if you tap Accept.
- Anything you type is blanked out on your device, so we never see it.
- We only ever see this site, never your other tabs, apps or screen.
- Replays are deleted after 30 days.
- Changed your mind? turns it off for this visit, deletes the replay of your current visit and forgets your visit history (below).
Tap No thanks and what your browser noted is thrown away without ever reaching us, and nothing more is noted for the rest of your visit. The banner asks again the next time you come back.
KNOWING WHEN YOU COME BACK
The same yes also lets your browser keep a random ID between visits, so we can tell that the person reading today is the one who visited last week, and put your visits together in one history. It isn’t a cookie, and nothing else is used to recognise you: clear your browser’s data and you’re new to us.
If you join the waitlist from that browser, we add your email to that history, and using the same email on another device puts both devices’ visits together. We may give a history a nickname of our own to keep track of it. Tap No thanks, or turn replays off in privacy settings, and the ID is deleted from your browser and the history from our records.
THE WAITLIST
If you join, we keep your email so we can tell you about new issues and print copies, along with the IP address it came from, to keep spam bots out. If you’ve said yes to the banner, your email also goes with your visit history (see above). Ask any time and we’ll take you off.
WHO HELPS US
The site runs on Vercel and the data is stored with Supabase. They just look after it for us and don’t use it for anything else.
QUESTIONS
Nikitin Mag is published by Nikitin Gallery, 21 India St, Brooklyn, NY 11222. Write to team@nikitinmag.comto ask what we have, or to have it corrected or deleted. Visit numbers and replays aren’t tied to your name. They’re only tied to your email if you joined the waitlist after saying yes to the banner, so telling us your email, or roughly when you visited, helps us find them.
